Whatever your relationship with food — good or bad — the thought of eating probably brings up some sort of emotion in you. Food can symbolize comfort, love, and the often painful struggle with self love and acceptance. STORIES OF LOVE & WEIGHT LOSS is a collection of short monologue like vignettes based on real cases the author experienced during her years of private practice. They are at times sad, poignant, joyous and uplifting. You go through a gamut of emotion while reading the vignettes. Chances are, you’ll find at least one (or more!) stories that you strongly identify with.
I enjoyed the first person point of view the stories were presented in. You feel more connected to the narrator if you can get into their head and really explore their emotional ups and downs with them. I don’t think it would have worked as well in third person due to the person nature of the stories. At first, I thought it was going to be a non fiction collection sort of like Chicken Soup For The Soul, but all about the weight loss. The further I read, the further I enjoyed the fictionalized accounts of real cases. The story lengths vary from a paragraph or two to several pages. It was a quick, easy read with a great message at its heart. I personally struggle a lot with body image so I especially appreciated the message of ‘you’re beautiful just the way you are.’

Glutamine seems to be one of those wonder products that has a potential to help a lot of people. Instead of just being used to amp up your weight lifting regiment or gym session, it also has benefits to people looking to lose weight, recover from muscle soreness after said workout, have more energy, and grow lean muscle mass. While Crosscore Nutrition’s 700 MG Glutamine product may be able to do all that and more, as a mother of three very active girls still struggling to loose that baby weight, I was most interested in weight loss and energy.
Packaging – Crosscore Nutrition’s 700 MG Glutamine comes in an all black bottle with bright blue lettering. It seems geared more towards men and fitness enthusiasts instead of moms trying to lose weight. No buff guy or gal on the packaging claiming we can look like them if we take the supplement. I like the simplicity. Plus, it’s not something I feel like I need to hide away in the medicine cabinet like some weight loss products.
Ingredients – 99.9% Pure L-Glutamine amino acid. The only other ingredient listed is gelatin for the capsule.
Performance – My daily “exercise” routine consists of walking and chasing kids around. I did feel more energetic while taking the Glutamine. Usually I’m exhausted by the end of the day and struggle to stay awake past 8 pm. I enjoyed the boost of sustained energy during the day…I got a lot of work done around the house too! I haven’t seen any weight loss benefits yet but I’m going to stick with it.
I recommend Crosscore Nutrition’s 700 MG Glutamine to anyone looking for a multi purpose supplement that does what it says it does in a natural amount of time. Don’t expect an overnight success or miracle pill. If you go in with reasonably expectations, you’ll be very happy with the results.

FREE YOURSELF FROM THE DIET LANGUAGE by Ayelet Kalter starts with a very interesting premise: Is obesity the problem in a society trying to be healthy or is the way we approach losing weight the problem? According to most schools of thought, obesity is a disease and health is the lack of disease. Can you be obese and healthy at the same time? Why do 95% of diets fail?
As someone who has struggled with weight loss since hitting my 30s and having 3 kids, I’m always on the look out for diet options. I’ve tried just about everything that I thought I could stick to (Atkins, calorie counting) and even those that I knew I couldn’t (apple diet). I’m not unhealthy. I get plenty of exercise. I don’t make superb food choices but I’m not only eating junk food either. Why was I having trouble losing weight? I was hoping FREE YOURSELF FOR THE DIET LANGUAGE could offer some insight into the process instead of just another ‘do this — trust me it works’ routine sales pitch. What I found was a very scholarly, informative book about how diet language affects our way of thinking and, even, our way of life with the obsession to be healthy, which usually equates to being thin. Thin isn’t necessarily healthy just like obese isn’t necessarily unhealthy. Once we switch from the old way of thinking to mindful eating, true change can take place.
If you’re looking for an inspirational, easy to read self help book, this isn’t really the book for that. It’s very scholarly with footnotes and citations. It reads like an academic book more than self help. The information inside if very valuable but, personally, I think you need to be in the right mindset before you open it up. If you’re not ready to focus and really take in what Kalter is saying, you won’t benefit from the valuable information.
I recommend the book if you’re looking for a scholarly approach to diet and weight loss.
I’ve done a lot of research on all the various diet products that pop up as ‘must have’…and I mean a lot of research. Trying a Colon Cleanse Detox has always been on my radar but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to try it or not. Even though most weight loss plans recommend a 7 day full body detox to flush the toxins out of your system and essentially reboot, I still hesitated. Maybe I felt guilty after one too many fast food lunches. Whatever the reason, I decided to put my reservations aside when I was offered the opportunity to review the Detox Colon Total Body Cleanse.
Besides the weight loss benefit of flushing excess waste and toxins out of your body, the Detox also helps maintain digestive health and keep you regular. It is created from a host of natural ingredients including:
Fennel Seed, Cascara Sagrada, Ginger, Goldenseal, Pumpkin Seed, Buckthorn Root, Licorice Root, Rhubarb, Citrus Pectin, Acidophilus, Acai, Cape Aloe, Bentonite Clay, Aloe Vera, Cayenne Pepper, Senna, Oat Bran, Prune Juice and Flax Seed Oil. The recommended dose is 2 capsules a day. You can either take them both at once with a glass of water or 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. Since I had never tried a Detox Cleanse before, I started out on the safe side with only 1. The results were in line with other reviews say. In other words, be prepared to spend a lot of time in the bathroom…especially on Day 1.
Within an hour of taking the supplement, I felt an urgent need to use the bathroom. That was the usual pattern for the morning. It tapered off by the afternoon. I could have taken a second pill, but I decided not to on Day 1. Day 2, I took a supplement in the morning. It didn’t feel like it was as effective as Day 1 so I took a 2nd before noon. The absolute highest daily dose is 3 pills. I stuck with 2. Days 3-7 were similar. I needed to take 2 pills instead of 1 to feel like it was cleansing/detoxing. I do feel like, by the end of the week, I had more energy and a clearer mind. I recommend using the cleanse when you’re feeling run down and in need of a reboot. It’s a good jump start to diet plans too.

If you’re struggling to lose weight, there seems to be a new ‘must try’ diet supplement every other minute. After 3 kids and a slowing metabolism, I was looking for something that would give me that boost I needed to reach my weight loss goal. I heard of Garcinia and Green Coffee Bean (what the Cleanse side of this combo pack is). I even tried them separately without a huge amount of success. When I was given the opportunity to test the Advanced Fast Weight Loss Kit, I hoped it would get me over the plateau I’ve found myself on. Usually you see dramatic, exaggerated claims on the packaging. I’ve found that if you go in modest expectations, you won’t be disappointed when you don’t lose that 20 lbs in a month that the advertising claims. Can people really lose 20 lbs in a month? Maybe. Will you? Probably not.
For Garcinia and Green Coffee Bean to be truly effective, you need to take them 30 minutes before meals. It curbs your hunger, appetite, and speeds up your metabolism naturally. If you take it before meals, you will feel full faster which lowers the danger of over-eating. I started out taking the 2 pill combo before breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I soon discovered that taking it on a completely empty stomach before breakfast made me nausea. If you feel you will over eat at breakfast, take the pills with a couple saltines to make sure it doesn’t upset your stomach. I dropped the breakfast dose and took the combo before lunch and dinner. It definitely made it so I didn’t feel hungry — maybe a little too well. I could go 6-8 hours during the day without eating. I would completely forget to eat because I never felt hungry. This may sound good if you are trying to cut calories, but I, again, felt sick from lack of food. I became less and less consistent with taking the supplement. That’s not the fault of the product, but mine. If you’re consistent, you will have better overall results. One thing I did notice is that my tummy looks tighter since I started taking Garcinia/Green Coffee Bean. I consider my stomach my problem area so seeing such noticeable results was worth it for me — even if the pounds didn’t melt off. Next time, I think I’ll add a 7 day colon cleanse before starting the Garcinia/Cleanse Weight Loss Kit.
